When we first began operation, in March 1993, we were stationed in an auto parts store that had been renovated by a group of dedicated members of the local volunteer fire companies.  The building consisted of ETA-EMS on one side, and an auto repair shop on the other.  The ambulance station was centrally located in Elizabeth Township.  The garage portion was sufficient to park two vehicles, which were staggered in the garage since we only had one garage door.  The interior of the facility had a common area, and a kitchen.  Interestingly though, the kitchen did not have running water.  The upstairs consisted of three small rooms, and a loft.  The small rooms were converted into two offices, and sleeping quarters.  The loft was used to store medical equipment.  In total the station was approx. 2,000 square feet.

This facility served our organization very well for the first few years when we only staffed one crew.  However, as call volume grew, we began to feel a little crammed.  This necessitated the move to our new facility in August 2004.  If you are doing the math, yes, it did take us 11 years to make the move.

Our new facility comprises approx. 6,000 square feet.  The facility consists of the following:

      ·        Garage capable of housing five vehicles

·        Plymovent system

·        Laundry Facilities

·        Equipment Storage Room

·        Exercise Room

·        Conference/Training Room

·        Operations Center

·        Administrative Offices

·        A common area

·        A fully equipped kitchen

·        Separate Male and Female Bunkrooms

·        Natural Gas Generator

Due to it’s extensive communications capabilities, centralized location, and much more, the facility is designated as the Emergency Operations Center for Elizabeth Township.
